New Market and Covington play well into the Nite!

Wednesday night has become Thursday morning and I am still looking to leave Covington. The day was great and there are great stories to tell about new friends as well as pictures to post. Rebecca headed back right after the final out (11:15 p.m.) with Bruce Alger and his youngest son so she could start the delivery process.

The Rebels and Lumberjacks played 11 innings of exciting Valley baseball but there was still more baseball to watch down here. It has been a few seasons since I missed a Greg Maddux start and the professor had the late game against the Cubs at Petco Park. The Cubs came into the contest with the best record in the majors and winners of 9 straight but Maddux was up to the task.

Maddux pitched 7.0 innings and limited the Cubs to 1 run on just three hits but you guessed it- the offense scored just 1 run for him. The Padres scored a second run right after Greg was pulled for a pitch hitter. He had only thrown 69 pitches when skipper Bud Black made the call to the bench and then Black had the PH bunt????? I think Maddux could of moved the runner over to third him self but what can you do?

Facing the hottest team in baseball and you toss a 3-hitter only to get a 6th no decision in 13 starts.....But as Tom Hanks said- There is no crying in baseball.

The Padres took the lead in the eighth inning and Trevor Hoffman closed out the ninth for the save. VBL alum Kevin Kouzmanoff (Winchester) hit the game winning sac fly for the home team.
We will have to wait another 5 days for a shot at win #351.....

I have looked four places for a Strasburg- Essex final from the rain delayed quarter-final game but no luck. Time to hit the road and begin the journey back towards Luray. If anyone has a Ram final score please let me know!

The story and pictures will be posted later today...
