Update on Alex Jones (Covington) / Cory Johnson (Luray)

The last check of the stat box that Kevin & company work so hard to prepare for all of us shows a couple of tidbits. I mentioned hearing from the Jones family and that there son is pitching for the Lumberjacks this season. Alex has came out of the bullpen 4 times for Covington and recorded 6.1 innings of relief work. His record is 0-0 and his ERA stands at 2.84. We will do our best to keep an eye on this young man and yes we will do that for any parents that check in with the site! Keep up the good work Alex. Honoring the Bulldogs

At the Wrangler game last night, the beginning of the night was dedicated to a group of talented athletes that accomplished something none of their predecessors had dreamed of: a 26-2 season, being defeated only in the semi-final round of state competition. I'm speaking, of course, of the Luray High School Baseball team! We, and the entire Wrangler family, could not be prouder of these 'Dogs! Here are some pictures of the celebration last night: Getting' psyched up! The 'Dogs before they're entrance onto the field. They all look nice in their polo shirts. Getting ready and some words from Mike Bocock. Mike Bocock helps hand out the baseballs (all 17 members of the team and staff that were present got the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch) and also gives them some words of encouragement. The Main Event! The 'Dogs get called out, one by one, onto the field. They get welcomed to the diamond by all the members of the Luray Wranglers (and cheers from t...

Travis Smink moves his record to 3-0 for Wranglers!

I don't pay as much attention to stats as most die hard baseball fans but one did jump of the page for me this morning. I knew Travis Smink was the winning pitcher for Luray last night but I did not know that the VMI Keydet improved to 3-0 on the season. Harrisonburg plated 3 runs early before Smink settled down to string together some scoreless innings. Smink has now pitched 18.2 innings over three starts and his ERA is 2.41 for the Wranglers. Travis just completed his red-shirt sophomore season for the Keydets down in Lexington, Va. were he appeared in 19 games, including 2 as a starter. The 6'2 lefty had a solid season for VMI STATS FROM VMI : Games-19 Starts-2 INN- 44.0 W-L 2-1 ERA- 3.48 Saves- 7 Mom & Dad- Jodi & James Smink Congrats on the fast start here in the Valley League! Yesterday, I had the opportunity to head down to Lexington then up to C-ville with Clay (Kelly, number 4 on your rosters, number 1 in your heart) and his father Pat. Here are some pictures from our visit! I didn't take any pictures at UVa but I think I got some good shots (even if some of them were out of the window, ha) of Washington & Lee and Virginia Military Institute.
