HAPPY 4TH OF JULY ! GOD BLESS AMERICA (DAY #35)

The VBL is shut down for the day so for the 1ST time in 5 weeks I won't have a VBL game to attend. I guess it is okay, its not like the Cal Ripken and the Orioles didn't have days off during THE STREAK but there is an certain amount of emptiness to the fact that for the first time in five weeks I don't have a baseball game to attend. Saturday night will be exciting as we will head down to Staunton to help celebrate the 6TH & 7TH VBL fans to complete the ATV-60 loop. A holiday week-end night down in Staunton should provide a huge crowd and any night spent with Kay & Boyd is a good one. Then Sunday we head down to Covington for the All Star festivities . Monday ( Fauquier @ Harrisonburg ) and Tuesday (Both Waynesboro and Staunton at home) should both be interesting because they were originally set up to be off days/ make up days but I think there are now games slated for both days. To keep the game streak alive during those two days could prove to be a c...

Time to Write a "Gamer": Generals trip up Rebels 4-1 on Day #34

Before I get started I want to say it was great to see some familiar faces around Rebel Park and up in the Crows Nest last night. 1.Dallas Alkire was back from his extended vacation and returned to the broadcast booth to help call the action. 2. ESPN 1240's Chip Krable was inside the press box calling the game for the Generals fans back in the Waynesboro - Staunton area. 3. John Leonard (All Things Valley League) was also back at the diamond following his family vacation to Pennsylvania. 4. John Galle (Shenandoah Valley-Herald) was there to cover the action for the weekly paper and was asking who in the area was getting close to completing their passport? 5. Tabatha and Beverly- The ladies that we spent this past Monday night celebrating their completion of the loop were there to cheer on their Generals as was Brian- the voice of the Generals. 6. Damon Dillman (TV-3) was there and he also brought exciting news that a feature on the promotion would be running on the 6 & 11...

Waynesboro trips up New Market 4-1 at Rebel Park- Three VBL teams reach double figures (Day 34)

Waynesboro (19-8) kept doing all the things they do right and it took the Generals to another VBL victory over New Market Thursday night at Rebel Park. The final score was 4-1 but the real winners were the town of New Market as it was Parents Day at the park. The amount of folks that were in town was unbelievable and when you add in the number of Waynesboro fans that made the trip up- it was the largest VBL crowd I have ever seen outside of Staunton . The next special bonus was they crowd was still there at the end of the game. I have often said that the crowds at New Market were as knowledgeable as any in baseball and when you mix in the dedicated group that supports the Generals, you end up with a true 9 inning crowd. I will be back later to tell stories from the Crows Nest- sadly the Post gets delivered 365 Days a Year so we have work to take care enough first......

A great day on the Volleyball Court @ Christopher Newport U.

Image
Yesterday might have been the trickiest of all the days since the season started. Two of the Strasburg Rams Volleyball players and head coach Suzanne Mathias were participating in the East meets West All Star festival that has been going on all week down in the Hampton / Newport News area of Tidewater. Kaitlin Smoot and Katie Baker were both named to the Virginia State All Star Team for the 2007-2008 season and Mathias was named as one of the 3 coaches for the East squad. This made for the split twin bill- first driving the 190 miles down to Christopher Newport University and then making it back to Luray for the Wrangler-Cards game. The players named to the team included all three classifications (A,AA & AAA) so being named to the squad was quite an accomplishment for each of these young ladies. It was great to see both of them as well as both sets of their parents again. Their is a coaches clinic for the week going on at the same time so I was able to visit with Coach Morgan and...
