Four more cross the ATV-60 Finish Line on Friday Night!

There were two more pairs of great folks to complete their passports Friday night. In both cases it was a parent & child duo, just like the adventure that started for me and my youngest son Chris about a decade ago. We went to the Bing up in Front Royal to help out with the 1ST pitch ceremony as Buck Smith and his son Jacob. The connection between the two families is special because it was Charlie and Melissa Dodge that brought the idea to the attention of the Smiths at a New Market home game. Melissa Dodge and her son Noah were busy last night getting their final stamp at the Fauquier home game against their Rebels. Charlie had to take a break to attend some of the Virginia High School festivities so is a couple of blocks behind. We will be there at Rebel Park to celebrate with the Dodges once they return home so we were there to say THANKS to the Smith family. Buck has been a part of Warren County High School athletics for quite a while and his current role involves both WC an...

An Evening Spent with John Leonard- All Things Valley League

Image
The first time that John Leonard heard me speak about baseball it was at the Grand Stand Managers kick-off dinner. Bruce Alger had invited both Austin Gisriel and myself to speak to the wonderful group. I followed Austin on the stage (Sent Rebecca to Harrisonburg's Barnes & Noble for the July edition of Virginia Living- still not on the shelves yet- their mail subscribers have received the magazine and the early reviews are great) and John heard me discuss a very special topic for me- Heroes. I live in a different part of the world than most as I am always searching for the GOOD SIDE of any event or the special traits of people living the right way. The trouble with living in the now that way is one is prone to being disappointed but the reward for finding the ACT of kindness or the person conducting business the way you want them too more than makes up for the setbacks. My list that night was a short one, with GOD taking the top spot and my father- Charles Carter following...

End of Week #6- Good Week for Helping Out in the Valley

Image
Week #6 is drawing to a close and it proved to be filled with highs and lows for us here @ ATV-60. The cost of transportation is effecting things on a number of fronts and the various newspapers ability to afford the normal coverage they give out is no exception. This week we were able to help out four different publications with three sets of pics and one or two call in reports. We are always trying to find ways to help shine the light on the VBL as well as area high school athletes in our Valley and this week was full of opportunities . We will go back to Sunday at the All Star game in Covington . We were able to capture "art" on Jeff Jefferson winning the home run derby that made its way into the weekly edition of the Page News and Courier in Luray . The game briefs made its way back to TK who was working the desk at the NVD . The info showed up in the Monday edition of the newspaper. Item #3 was for Kip Riteneour at the Warren County Sentinel who helped us out earlier...

The VBL makes it offical- Lexington will lace them up in 2008!

The VBL and the good folks down in Lexington will hold an 11:00 AM Press Conference today to announce that the league will welcome the Rockbridge Rapids into the fold for the 2009 season. While the news is not new to me, I was hoping that the secret could be kept until the ceremony at Washington & Lee took place. I picked up a copy of the DNR this morning while putting out the Post so I could check out the gamer that Mike Barber wrote on the Luray - Harrisonburg game and noticed that Dustin Dopirak was sharing the above the fold with Barber. The DNR lead- VBL Adds Team- Lexington Finally Joins Valley League. You can check out the story at http://www.dnronline.com/ . Dustin did a great job of covering all the bases and added quotes from Covington , New Market, VBL officals and the group owning the team... Nice story Dustin & Congrats to Rapids Owner-Jim Crothers and General Manager-Ken Newman !!
