Big night for Buckner and B-Size (Generals win 10-7) Written by Michael Kerr The Waynesboro Generals won their 2nd straight game against The Staunton Braves here at Kate Collins Field 10-7, and now have won 3 in a row against their rival. Grant Buckner had a big night going 4-5, a double and a RBI. Brandon Sizemore once again had a hot night going 3-5, 3 singles, 3 stolen bases and had 2 RBI's. Ryan Adams and Evan Webb both had 2 RBI's, and Gabriel Saade had 3 runs along with Derek Hamblen who had 2 runs. Waynesboro had a 8-0 lead up until the 5th when the Braves got it within 3 runs to make it a 8-5 game and got no closer than 3 runs. Andy Altemus got the win going 5 1/3 innings, gave up 4 runs on 5 hits, with 4 K's and 4 walks. Altemus is now (7-1) and has to be in the mix for pitcher of the year along with Adam Liberatore for Waynesboro. 10 Really Cool things that happened on Day #56 @ Winchester

With 11 hours of fun and to complete games to choose from it might be hard to narrow the list down to 10 but I will give it a try. Just a reminder- we still have a Gamer from Generals Sign Guy Mike to post as well as our pictures and three more from a new friend of ours! That is a great place to start: 10. Our new friend is Winchester web master Ken Hockin . I knew of Ken's great work before today but I had never had the privilege of meeting Ken or his wife before today. One of the things that Ken does so great (besides the Royals entire Web Page) is he is so quick on posting a run down on what his Royals did that night. The number of times that Ken has had info posted sooner than it is available than anywhere else is too many to count. Ken also gets credit for talking Betty Phillips into coming out on to the field to take a bow in front of the home crowd for being the first Royals fan to complete their passport. We are not done yet- Ken brought Betty a special gift to giv...

Rebels remain alive with gritty 9-3 victory over Covington

By: Scoop Carter ATV-60 Sports Correspondent NEW MARKET- Playing with their post season lives hanging in the balance New Market rode the right arm of Steve Owens (Richmond) to a season saving 9-3 victory over Covington Friday night in Valley Baseball League action. The win over the Lumberjacks coupled with the losses by both Harrisonburg and Haymarket earlier in the day, kept the Rebels mathematically alive with three games to play in the VBL season. Owens (2-4) fell behind 2-0 after two innings but appeared to pick up steam after the shaky start. "He didn't allow a base hit after the second inning," Rebel pitching coach Rick Smith said. "It's not to often that you can pitch around five errors and get a win but Steve did it tonight." The shaky start was on the part of the Rebels defense but Owens continued to bear down and gets the outs he had to have to keep New Market (14-27) in the game during the early stages.Rico Noel led off the game wi...

Harrisonburg and Haymarket look to clinch final playoff spots on Day #57

Harrisonburg and Haymarket have clinched at least a tie for the final two spots with 17 victories and both teams will look to seal the deal on Saturday night. New Market and Woodstock each have 14 wins and three games remaining but both teams would have to sweep all 3 and have the Turks and Senators lose all three. The question that we are looking to answer is this- if a tie exists between 1&2 or 8&9 will the VBL use a 1 game playoff versus a tie breaker in this case. It is safe to assume that all other ties will be broken by head to head but one would think if it is 8 Vs. 9...... Who out there has the answer to this one? Haymarket travels to the Bing on Saturday night to play the Front Royal Cardinals while New Market won't need to do any scoreboard watching as the Rebels play at Harrisonburg . Winchester (sweepers of a wacky 3 team double header Friday) travel to Central High School to face the Woodstock River Bandits... The other 3 games: Two of them hav...
