Tuesday Night Volleyball Report : Strasburg claims Bull Run & Wilson Memorial takes big step toward Shenandoah

FISHERSVILLE - Wilson Memorial clinched at least a tie for the Shenandoah District Championship with their 3-0 sweep over Luray while Strasburg (17-2,9-0) added another trophy to the case as the Rams moved to 9-0 in the Bull Run with their sweep over visiting Manassas Park. The most surprising sweep of the night came down in Shenandoah where Alan Knight's Page County Panthers made it 2 wins in 2 nights with a 3-0 sweep of Stonewall Jackson. Bill Meade just let me know that Riverheads edged Buffalo Gap 3-2 so I will have some updated standings here in a bit and some pictures to boot...

Shenandoah District Volleyball : Page County 3, Buffalo Gap 1

Buffalo Gap - 25/18/19/21 Page County-19/25/25/25 SHENANDOAH - There was a great deal on the line for both Buffalo Gap and Page County as the two schools played the first of three matches over a four day period. The Shenandoah District is entering its final week of the regular season and a scheduling bug has both the Lady Panthers and the Lady Bison playing matches on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday night. Both squads entered Monday with 1-6 records in the District, just one half game behind 4TH place Riverheads (2-6) . Win on Monday and you are tied for fourth, lose and you are alone in 6TH place. Gap's win came at home against PCHS and Page owned an upset over 3RD place Stonewall Jackson (5-3). Trailing 10-9 in the opening game, Buffalo Gap ran off seven straight points behind the serving of Alison Wilkins. Wilkins scored a pair of aces and Lauren McCutcheon added a pair of kills to give the visitors a 16-10 lead. The two team traded points for the remainder of game 1 until Renee...

Ladies Night at Page County High School : Championship Ladies that is...

SHENANDOAH - Page County played a home volleyball match Monday night against Buffalo Gap and the Lady Panthers held a very special ceremony before play began. Head Coach Alan Knight led PCHS to four Class A State Championships between 1986-1991, including three straight from 1989 to 1991. The three straight titles still stand in the record books after nearly 20 years and Monday night the Panthers gym was full of team photos from all 4 teams and a large number of former Panthers were in attendance as well. Page News and Courier Sports Editor Bill Meade was at the match as well and Bill spent some quality time with a number of the Panther Alumni. I am sure that Bill will have a feature on the gathering with the PN & C comes out on Wednesday. In the time between tonight and then, I was able to capture a few pics of the evening...

They're Baaaack! Buffalo Gap Bisons are at it Again -

SWOOPE - Just finished reading Jim Sacco's (and Derek McDaniel's) take on the 2008-2009 Buffalo Gap football team over at Jim's site [daily pooch punt] and I have to admit the feature made me smile. One of the highlights of my time in the Valley has to be getting to call the Buffalo Gap State Championship Game last fall on ESPN-1240. Chip Crabill was busy coaching his Fishburne Military Academy Basketball team so the man doing the Play By Play was Craig Orndorff . Craig and I teamed up to bring the game to what I am guessing was the couple hundred people still back at Gap. Why the small number of people at home ? I think the rest of the town made the trip down to Salem, Va. for the Bison's big win. It was a great day - maybe a once in a generation game. Gap finished 14-0 and they have the rings to show it. We knew that Coach Maxwell would have a solid team in 2008-2009 but no one knew just how good, until now that is. Gap made it 2-0 in the Shenandoah District and 7-0...
