Big Day outside of D.C. as well - Visits with a Father & Son Basketball Coaching Duo/ Then a look inside the new Kettle Run High School/ ATVL news

This might take a while as there are a number of stories to tell and multiple games that were played all while making some new friends and being made to feel special by some old ones. ______________________________________________ Where to start is the question and the answer is confused by the Special Edition of the Washington Post we are about to go deal with. After we put out a special edition all night, they are bringing us an updated version just hours later. ______________________________________________ The day started with a trip over to Woodberry Forrest Academy in Orange County. My football broadcast partner and good buddy Chip Crabill is in his 5TH season as Head Basketball Coach at Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro (Yes, you will hear that town mentioned a great deal more from here out) and his team was playing at WF . Not only does Chip coach the team but his assistant is his Father, Mr. Larry Crabill . _________________________________________...

A Tip of the Cap to an up & coming young writer : Mr. John Galle

Image
www.dnronline.com/news_details.php?AID=34593& CHID =43 is a link to a story written by one of my favorite writers in the Valley, Mr. John Galle . I feel blessed to get to hang out with some writers that possess mad skills, such as Jim Sacco, John Leonard, Austin Gisriel , Chuck McGill to name a few. But this John Galle fella, he is an up & comer in a big way. ____________________________ John writes for the Shenandoah Valley Herald in Woodstock, Va. and recently finished a really cool story but I was hesitant to post the work. See, John was writing about our efforts here and I didn't want to give the wrong impression by saying look at us. The message is this - look at HIM. ____________________________ This is the same John Galle that helped us with our Strasburg VB project and I am hoping to get to read this young mans work for years to come!

Heather Stout collected 20 points to lead the visitors to a 63-43 victory Saturday afternoon while Meghan Lutz added 12 for Head Coach Jeff Burner. _____________________________________ Burner had a third player join Stout and Lutz in double figures as senior Molly Beall added 10 points while six other Generals scored at least 1 point in the victory. Just How Cold was it here this week end ?

Image
Cold enough that the Shenandoah River started to freeze over! But that didn't keep folks from getting out and supporting their local High School Basketball teams. Still can't get over the crowd at Stonewall @ Page. What makes it even more impressive is the boys teams from the same schools were playing 15 miles away. Great to see, as was Mr. Jim Sacco playing the role of beat writer by covering one of the games down in Augusta County. Plenty of great coverage available at the sites listed at the bottom of the page.

Former Turner Ashby Triple Threat Athlete now working the sidelines for Eastern Mennonite

HARRISONBURG - Last night during the Stonewall Jackson @ Page County girls basketball game some one from the stands stopped by to say good night to the Coach Knight and Coach Comer. After they exchanged pleasantries I stopped and asked them whom they were just talking to. The answer was Jeff Smith and I was quick to remember having watched Smith coach his Lady Flames earlier against both Page & against Luray . Smith had been in the gym Friday night to scout Stonewall Jackson as the two teams were going to play their postponed game on Saturday afternoon. _______________________________ Coach Knight mentioned that Smith had been somewhat of a track star in his playing days @ Turner Ashby. Smith looked to be in good enough shape that he might could be a track star now, let alone a few years ago. It turns out that our paths were going to cross on Saturday afternoon when EMHS hosted the Generals. _______________________________ After the game was over I approached Coach Smith to let ...
