Friday Night 🌙 x 4

Labor Day weekend is always one of the busiest weekends of the Sports year and tonight is full of contests that include one of the teams that we pay attention to so to have some fun we will do a little spin on scoreboard watching. Between 7pm and 730pm four different levels of competition will begin so let's get started with the teams and cities involved. Independence, Virginia (7pm) will be the site for Carroll County at Grayson County in week 2 of High School football. The Cavilers offense scored at will in its opener at Patrick County last week and will look to match last year's Win total against the Blue Devils. Appalachian State University Field Hockey 🏑🏒 will play its first road contest of the season at Rider with the action 🎬 getting underway at 7pm. The Mountaineers (2-0) defeated Towson and Georgetown at home last week by a combined score of 9-1 and will look to stay perfect on the young season. 7:10pm will be the first pitch for the Seattle Mariners at Jacob's Field versus the Cleveland Guardians. The M's are trying hard to end one of the longest post season droughts in North American sports history and enter the opening game of the weekend fresh off taking 3 out of 4 from Cleveland back home last weekend. 7:30pm will be the time for the opening kickoff for the Duke Blue Devils football team as they host Temple. Mike Elko has replaced long standing David Cutcliffe in the top spot in Durham and is hoping to get his regime off to a good start. It should be a fun night 🌙 across the board as all of the action gets underway shortly!

Central High School - Coach Jerry Walters & The Falcons Family Tree- Pics 1ST

After spending a couple of hours with Mr. John Galle of the Shenandoah Valley Herald in Woodstock I made the two mile drive over to Central High School. The Lady Falcons were playing Broadway and one thing you can always count on at Central is the chance to visit with some folks that will make you feel right at home. Tonight was no different, except the opportunity to trade stories with none other than Valley Coaching Legend Jerry Walters. On our site Jerry is also known as Jeff''s Dad but for tonight we will call him Coach. Coach spent 34 years working the sidelines at Central until his retirement following the 2004-2005 campaign. While I have known Coach for a few years, it wasn't until Thursday night that I was able to spend what I would call one on one plus time. See, Coach is a magnet to folks in the gym and each one of them brings another couple of stories to the forefront.
