Saturday Afternoon Notes & Thoughts

Greetings- It is 1:24 p.m. on Saturday and everyone is hard at work here at the home office! Linda is trying to prepare the give away items for the trip tonight to Harrisonburg for the Turks game. Rebecca is trying to finish the game night programs for the Front Royal @ Luray contest and I am trying to generate the bills that go out tonight to our Washington Post customers here in Page County. Here is a list of the projects we are working on- The final two thoughts and pictures from Winchester, our trip to Radford for the state playoff game and last night at Rebel Park. You can also go to www.newsleader.com to check out Al Samuels coverage of the Waynesboro -Powhatan semi-final from Pulaski. The Little Giants fell short of the state title game but congrats to Jim Critzer and his team for a tremendous season! Alleghany ( Covington ) did advance to the title game today (2:30 p.m.) in Class AA and we will try and report on the results..... Day 8 of 11 and we have a great de...

I might need a Top 15 Tonight! Fun, Fun, Fun

I don't want to short change Front Royal and the "Bing" out of their top 10 list so with all the exciting action happening at the HIGH SCHOOL level I might push it out to 15. We started the night out by catching the warm-ups and 1st inning of the BIG GAME in Luray . The home town Bulldogs were hosting Lancaster for the right to go to Radford and compete in the Final Four. Rebecca got plenty of shots of the team and the great crowd getting ready and some of LHS Ace Richard Galindez pitching the first inning. Bill Meade was there to cover the game for the Page News and Courier and the town folks will get to read about it the next day instead of having to wait a while! Galindez pitched the first inning like he knew I was in a hurry. It took the senior about three minutes to face Joseph Betts (Strike Out), Adam Benson (Strike Out) and then get Luke Saunders to send a fly ball to the fastest athlete I have seen play high school ball in a while- Johnny VanWyck . VanWy...

4 "Valley Teams" look to advance to Prep Final 4

Tuesday night I will be joining Donna Settle, Greg Brill and company in Front Royal as Around The Valley makes stop #4 of 11. Four is the number of the night as four area teams will do battle on four diamonds with the hopes of advancing to the Final Four. ____________________________________________________________________ Class- A Lets start in Luray , where the host Bulldogs (25-1) welcome Lancaster (16-7) into town. Luray defeated Strasburg in the Region B championship last Friday which gave Coach Steve Griffith and his nine the right to play at Bulldog Field. Griffith has been kind enough to call me a couple of times but we have yet to visit. The season the Bulldogs are having is history in the making and if Ace lefty Richard Galindez has his good stuff it could continue down to Radford for a Friday semi-final. Luray AD Don Ehlers shared some thoughts with me about the team and I will put them in story form- win or lose Tuesday night. The Page News and Courier will have Bi...

News and notes from Waynesboro, Virginia !

My daughter is working on the pictures from last night and they should be up soon. We had a great time down at Kate Collins Field last night and I wanted to share a few of the reasons why... 10. The Staunton News-Leader- Not only did the News Leader send their ace reporter to the game last night (Al Samuels), they were giving away logo bags that included a free copy of their Sunday newspaper. That would be cool enough but then I opened the Sports section and looked at page 2. The entire page was the Waynesboro Generals and their home schedule! When you take in to consideration that the entire idea behind Around The Valley is to promote the Valley League, I will always try to be the first one to applaud the efforts of somebody knocking one out of the park! Two nice ladies were there to greet the fans and pass out the tote bags and they did a wonderful job as well. I don't know if the credit goes to the marketing department or Hubert in the Sports department (maybe a bit of both)...

Check out the News-Leader for May 10th, 2008

At 3:22 a.m and in search of something to offset the storm outside I decided to check the website for the Staunton News-Leader (newsleader.com)in hopes of finding the story that Shaun Cox was working on. Not only was the story there but Mr.Cox really did a great job sizing up the idea and Mrs.Kay Snyder shined as well with her quotes in the story! Every article or radio interview that has taken place has went great and now with both the Augusta Free Press/ Sports Dominion and the News Leader on board to the South we are well represented in Augusta County. Please enjoy the story and both Shaun and the Snyder's- please take a bow!

Mr. Shaun Cox and John Leonard strikes again!

Life is good today in the world that is "Around The Valley in 60 Days". I just finished reading John Leonard's post on his blog from the Friday night dinner in New Market and the recap was excellent! Please take the time to read it at All Things Valley League. The post came early this morning- I imagine sometime between breakfast for his girls and his first period class at the High School. The second pleasant surprise came in a phone call from Mr.Shaun Cox. I was able to talk with Shaun (News Leader) for nearly a half hour about two things I love- baseball and the Valley League. I need to pass on a thank you to Boyd and Kay Synder from the Braves organization for their help with getting the News Leader on board. Mr.Cox is new to the area having moved from the Lexington, Ky. area recently and would appear to be a big time baseball fan! When he mentioned Lexington it gave me one more opportunity to talk about what I call the greatest baseball game not many know about...
