ESPN's FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS : Take #11 - Augusta County Game of Games (Riverheads @ Buffalo Gap)

SWOOPE - Just finished reading Jim Sacco's piece on the BIG GAME and must admit I am looking forward to heading down Virginia Highway 42 for the High School Game of the Week with Chip Crabill.

The fall of 2006 ended with Riverheads capturing the Class A State Championship down in Salem. The Gladiators spent the entire 2007 season with a Bulls Eye on their jerseys but the State Championship still made it back to Augusta County in November. Just one catch though, it was Buffalo Gap that brought the title to the neighborhood the second time around.

Two schools that are separated by just over 20 miles of beautiful countryside have managed to claim back to back State Titles and now Buffalo Gap (8-0, 3-0 Shenandoah District) is trying to make another run at a trip down to Salem. Riverheads (6-2,3-0) is hoping to knock the Bison express of the tracks and in doing so set their own sites on a deep playoff run.

There is plenty of talk about how early someone will have to make it out to Gap in order to claim a parking space on BGHS property. Both Chip and Sacco are guessing between 3:30 and 5:00 P.M. to be safe. After seeing how many Gappers made the trip down to Salem last year I wouldn't doubt it...
