Wranglers defeat Covington 7-2 on the day after!

Last time I was writing ATV-60 baseball hero Greg Maddux was clinging to a 2-1 lead in the 7TH inning against the Dodgers. Padre skipper Bud Black pulled Greg for a pinch hitter and the bullpen tried once again to protect a Maddux win. Sadly for me, they failed to do so for a fifth time this young season.

The SD outfielders didn't help the pen and LA scored 6 UN-answered runs in the final three frames to take a 7-2 victory. The fifth blown save of the season keeps Maddux four wins behind Roger Clemens (354-350). His 3-4 record and 3.33 era makes me scratch my head until I read he has the third lowest run support in the league. We will do it again in a few days...

On the twelfth night of the season I headed down to Bulldog Field to do the PA work for the Wranglers-Covington tilt. Covington came into the contest atop of the Southern division and Luray (5-3) was part of a log jam that is the Northern division. I was still trying to shake off the
cobwebs when the first pitch was thrown at 7:35 p.m.

Luray put together back to back 3 run innings in the middle of the contest and then held off a late rally by the visitors. Covington center fielder Derrick Washington made the play of the early season when he scaled the wall to bring a home run back into the park. He looked very Ken Griffey-esque while making the grab. The defense of both teams looked solid throughout the night and the key stat of the game was Covington stranded 14 runners on base.

General Sign Guy Mike checked in with updates on Haymarket @ Waynesboro and let us know that his guys won after scoring 9 runs(9-7). He was also able to tell me that Front Royal defeated Harrisonburg 6-4 and the scoreboard at the League site posted Winchester edged Woodstock 3-1. Staunton edged New Market 2-1 in the fifth and final game of the evening.

Tomorrow night will be the fourth and final night of the Wranglers home stand. Teresa Wease and her Harrisonburg Turks will make the trip up I-81 and across US-211 to face the
home town nine. We will have the camera back out in hopes of catching some more great photos.
