Luray at New Market written by GeneralsSignGuyMike

Battle of the Mountain Part 3 from a General point of view
Written by GeneralsSignGuyMike (Michael Kerr), Daily Reporter

First off I loved seeing a great game between the "Battle of the Mountain" teams and getting to talk to a few fans from both teams. Yes a Waynesboro Generals fan was in the crowd but I gotta admit its a great rivalry just like on my end when the Generals face the Staunton Braves and the Harrisonburg Turks.

Talking about the Generals and Wranglers the newest PG Crosschecker poll for this week came out and 2 Valley League teams was in the top 8. The Generals were 5th and the Wranglers were 8th. Congrats guys and I know both teams are happy with the seeding in the polls thou both teams wish they can forget about tonight.

The game I wasn't at tonight with the Generals was against Covington down in Covington and they lost 8-3 and gotta thank Chuck and Benji for giving me reports on the game. A good note for the Generals was Brandon Sizemore did hit 2 HR both solo in the game so he gives his 5 on the season. Way to go Brandon. The Generals (17-8) will try to get back on the winning end tommorrow at Kate Collins Field when they face the Fauquier Gators (15-8) which has won 4 in a row. The Generals will be back at Fauquier on July 19th which will be the last place I have to go to get my stamp.

Now the story from New Market, The Rebels defeated the Wranglers 9-1 in a very good game was was scoreless till the 3rd when Kevin Dietrich had a RBI single. Luray then tied it in the 6th if I am correct might have been in the 5th when CJ Lauriello had a solo HR, the only score that Luray had. In the bottom of the 6th, New Market started to shake up Luray's starter Alex Wimmers and the relief pitchers Eric Hinkle and Jordan Yost in the inning. The Rebels got on with walks and hit by pitches and one of the weird stats u will see that happens very few times happened when Riley Cooper was hit by a pitch with bases loaded. New Market then scored another 3 runs in the 7th and 2 in the 8th to pad their lead.

Stars for both teams was for Luray: Jeff Jefferson who went 4-4 with 3 singles and 1 double and Lauriello who went 2-4 with a HR, a single and stolen base and 1 RBI. For New Market Kevin Dietrich was 3-5 with a RBI triple, RBI single and another single. Michael Mooney had a RBI double and Murray Watts had 2 RBI's and a single. Ross Fetterly was the winning pitcher going 6 2/3 innings, 1 R, 10 H, 3 K, 1 BB. The losing pitcher was Alex Wimmers who went 5 1/3 innings, 3 R, 4 H, 5 K, 2 BB.
