Generals add the finishing touch, win 9-3!
Written by: GeneralsSignGuyMike (Michael Kerr)

The Waynesboro Generals defeated the Front Royal Cardinals 9-3 at Kate Collins Field on Monday. The Cardinals put up a great fight early but the Generals got back the lead in the 7th and went on to score the victory. They have now improved to 14-2 at home.

The Generals improved to (23-10) and winners of 2 straight and the Cardinals fell to (10-23) and losers of 6 straight. Front Royal got a run in the 1st inning, but the Generals took the lead in the bottom half after Mark Dvoroznak singled and then Evan Webb hit a 2 run HR, his 5th of the year to take a 2-1 lead. Waynesboro got another run in the 4th when they had a walk and 2 singles and then a RBI sac fly by Greg Meleski. Bennett Davis in the 6th inning for the Cardinals had a solo HR, then after a wild pitch in the 7th by Pete Vandenbout they tied it at 3. After the wild pitch Vandenbout struck out the next batter and made the next batter ground out. In the bottom of the 7th Waynesboro scored 4 runs and never looked back. In the inning Chris Enourato led off with a walk, then Greg Meleski reached on a error, Derek Hamblen sacrificed to move the players over. Then Brandon Sizemore (yes the fan favorite is back) came out to pinch hit after a standing ovation for Andrew Scherer. The pitcher Kevin Crimmel then intentionally walked Sizemore to load the bases and then the Waynesboro coach Lawrence Nesselrodt sent in a pinch runner Michael Parker in. There was another ovation for Sizemore again. Welcome back Brandon! Mark Dvoronzak had a RBI bases loaded walk which the Generals then took the lead 4-3. Gabriel Saade had a pop out and after having a big 1st inning, Webb came to bat and had a 2 RBI single and then Ryan Adams and a RBI single after that to take a 7-3. Waynesboro added 2 more runs in the 8th and Austin Morgan had a big inning coming in to pinch hit with a RBI triple.

Pete Vandenbout if I am correct got the win for the Generals pitching 1 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run,1 hit, 1 K, 1 BB. He is now (3-0). Kevin Crimmel was the losing pitching going 3 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 1 hit and giving up several walks. He is now (2-3). Kaleb Fleck did come in for the Generals in the final 2 innings only giving up 1 hit and struck out 2 with 1 walk. Waynesboro's starter Jeff Sinkiewicz went 5 1/3 innings, giving up 2 runs, on 7 hits, striking out 2 and walking 2.

Waynesboro will be off along with Luray from the regular season schedule as they both are part of an exhibition game against the Vienna Senators from the Clark Griffith League. The Generals will face the Senators at 4pm while the Luray Wranglers will face the Senators at 7:30. I will do an update for the Generals game tommorrow and will be staying for half of the Wranglers/Senators game.

Waynesboro will get back to the schedule on Wednesday when to go to rival Staunton Braves, while Front Royal will be at home tommorrow to face the Fauquier Gators (18-13). Ready for an exciting game today in Luray versus another team from another league.

GO GENERALS!
