College World Series- Florida State vs. Miami (Big VBL Flavor)

Waiting for a call from Bruce Alger to see if the Rebels once washed out home game against Harrisonburg will be played tonight, I started watching the elimination game of the College World Series. I was amazed by the amount of former Wranglers and other VBL players involved in the contest.

The most famous alum is probably Yonder Alonso (Luray '06), the first baseman was just drafted 7Th overall but the list doesn't stop there. Starting pitcher Elih Villanueva (FSU) was playing for Luray last year while attending Miami-Dade CC. Adan Severino (Luray-'07) is playing left field for the Hurricanes after spending last summer here as a member of Broward CC.

The Canes center fielder all season (every game) is former River Bandit Blake Tekotte and the starting pitcher for Miami is David Guiterrez (Luray '07). Miami leads 6-2 in the top of the eight inning and you can bet that head coach Jim Morris will turn the ball over to closer- you guessed it- Carlos Guiterrez (Luray '07). I had the privilege of covering Carlos last summer in his first game back from arm surgery.....Dennis Raben (Staunton '06) is also starring for the Canes

A large number of VBL players playing on the national stage! As I finished typing the post, Blake just crushed his second home run in two CWS games to push the Canes lead to 7-2!

Drafted- Alonso (1ST-/7), Carlos (1ST-27), Raben (2ND-66) and Blake (3RD-101) went in the first 3 rounds and Enrique Garcia (Winchester '05 & '06) (24/719) joined Adan (26/786) as other Canes drafted.
