HAPPY FATHERS DAY 2008!

The rain and threat of a storm postponed at least a couple of VBL games Saturday night. Luray did not make the trip over to Fauquier for their game with the Gators and Harrisonburg @ New Market was also put on ice. I am not sure if any of the other three tilts were able to be played.

I hope that all of the ball players find the time to call Dad and wish him a Happy Fathers Day sometime today.I will remember to call my Dad down in Knoxville to do the same. I told my kids that the only thing I want for Fathers Day was to watch Maddux pick up a W when he pitches today at the Jake. San Diego pushed five runs across in the 10TH inning last night when VBL alum Kevin Kouzmanoff (Winchester '03) crushed a Grand Slam home run (10th HR on season) in the top of the inning. Clevland scored 3 in the bottom of the first but did not touch home plate after that as the Padres rallied for the 8-3 victory.

Maddux will face off with C.C. Sabathia at 1:05 p.m. in a match up of former Cy Young award winners. Kouz came up with the Tribe and hit a Grand Slam for them in his first major league at bat (I believe on the first MLB pitch he saw). September 2,2006 and it was his 1ST MLB pitch according to Yahoo Sports- Not a bad way to start your career!

The
VBL slate for today includes:

Luray @ Woodstock
Harrisonburg @ Covington
New Market @ Winchester (6:00 P.M.)
Front Royal @ Waynesboro
Fauquier @ Staunton

Haymarket- Off

Once again- (Fathers) Enjoy your special day!

The Generals win tonight over Front Royal 10-2, Andy Altemus pitched 5 2/3 innings to get the win. He had 7K,2BB,2R,6H. Ryan Danbury went 2 for 5 with a HR,Single, and 2RBI's. Brandon Sizemore hit his 2nd of the year and he went 2 for 4 with a Double,SB,BB and 2 RBI's. Great win after a rainout and we now have the Wranglers with a home-away series the next 2 days.

Other scores so far tonight: Winchester defeated New Market 6-4 and Fauquier defeated Staunton 4-2 Fauquier now a surprising (8-3). No report yet from the Luray-Woodstock and Harrisonburg-Covington game.

Thank you for your kind words and your faith in our ability to watch out for your son!

How did Pat manage to get out of here without ever mentioning his playing days @ UT ?
Hey Mike,
Good to hear from you. I just finished posting for the Luray @ Woodstock game and some others. Hope to get a good update tomorrow and then see you on Tuesday.
