The 'Jacks Fall to the Red Hot Generals at Home
Written by Weekly News Correspondent GeneralsSignGuyMike (Michael Kerr)
The Generals were back in town for the 1st time since last Wednesday and after the all-star break with a battle with 2nd place Covington Lumberjacks. Waynesboro jumped up early scoring 2 in the 1st, 2 in the 2nd to take a 4-0 lead. They lead 5-0 until the top of the 7th when Covington finally scored but the Generals scored another run in the bottom half and added some insurance in the 8th with another 3 on the board. Just last Tuesday Waynesboro lost to Covington down in Covington 8-3 where John Durham (Lumberjacks starting pitcher tonight) pitched a great game only giving up 2 runs both Brandon Sizemore home runs and 6 hits last week. This week was hit pretty hard early on giving up 5 runs and 7 hits all in the first 4 innings.
Adam Liberatore got the win tonight and is now at 5-0 and he went 7 2/3 innings, giving up 1 run, 4 hits, 5 K, and 1 walk. He has greatly improved from last year and has to be early consideration for MVP in the league, or atleast the best pitcher in the league. John Durham for the Lumberjacks was the losing pitcher and he is now 2-3.
Big stars tonight hitting was: Gabriel Saade-3 singles,2 runs,2 RBI's. Grant Buckner-2 hits,2 runs, double,RBI. Evan Webb-Triple 2RBI''s (maybe a 3rd due to a throwing error to 1st by the catcher when the pitcher threw a strike and run came in). Derek Hamblen and Greg Meleski both had 2 runs also.
The Waynesboro Generals after the win moved up to 3 1/2 games ahead of the Lumberjacks and they are now at 20-9 (12-2 at home) and Covington fell to 16-12 and is now in a 3 way battle for the 3rd best record along with Fauquier (16-11) and Winchester (16-12). Waynesboro will be at Haymarket (12-16) tommorrow night and Covington will be at Luray (20-8).
Huge stat for you Waynesboro Generals fans out there. Waynesboro is now (11-0) when scoring 7 or more runs in a game, and has won 8 straight home games moving them to (12-2) at home. Great crowd tonight and hope to see another huge crowd come Saturday when the Generals face the Woodstock River Bandits.
GO GENERALS!
