Luray runs winning streak to 8 straight- defeat Gators 15-5
There is a rumor floating around Wranglerville that Luray skipper Mike Bocock will be sporting a new hair-do if his Wranglers get to 10 straight on their current winning streak. His club moved the mark from 7 up to 8 with a 15-5 win over the visiting Fauquier Gators Friday night. Austin Markel was the man with the plan early on as the WVU center fielder picked up the first 4 RBI's in support of Andrew Armstrong (Ohio State). Markel ripped a 3 run homer in the bottom of the third inning and he added another RBI in the fifth to make the score 4-1.
Armstrong worked 7 innings to earn the victory for the Wranglers but the offenses really took off after the starting pitchers departed the game. The score was 5-2 at the 7TH inning stretch before things got interesting. 13 of the 20 runs were scored in the teams final two at bats, including 7 Luray runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Luray put up a 7 spot against the Haymarket bullpen in the bottom of the eighth to blow open a close game earlier in the streak.
There are two dangerous teams standing between Luray (16-6) and possibly sending their skipper to the barber shop (I hear it is a Mohawk ?). Woodstock (9-12, winners of 7 of their last nine) makes the trip over the mountain to Bulldog Field tomorrow and then on Sunday the Wranglers travel down to Waynesboro. Woodstock has split a pair with Luray while Waynesboro swept a home and away with the Wranglers just before the streak started. We will keep you posted on Mike and his hair.
Parents I ran into at the ball yard tonight- Mr.Jefferson (Jeff's Dad), Mr.Florio (Frank's Dad) and Mr.Wiesner (Alex's Dad). It was my first time meeting Mr.Wiesner and I am looking forward to visiting with him again while he is in town. I can't hide the fact that I thought it was pretty cool that when Clay got into the game as a pinch runner that "our" player scored two runs and picked up a RBI while officially going 0-1 with a HBP & a 5-3 ground out.
Rebecca has pics coming and Generals Sign Guy Mike has a gamer coming from his trip with his Generals up to Woodstock. I am hoping Melissa might could tell us about the New Market @ Harrisonburg tilt. See you on the other side....
