ATV-60 / Bruce Alger All-Star Bus Trip leaves today...

The day of the VBL All-Star game down in Covington is finally here and that means it is time for the ATV-60/ Bruce Alger's Rebels Fun Bus to pull out of Rebel Park! During the off-season when I learned two things- the Rebels had purchased a Team Bus and that the All-Star game was being played down at Casey Field. I approached Mr. Alger with an idea on how we (him and I) might could get some fans down to collect a Covington stamp for their passport. The idea was simple- if Bruce would be willing to provide the bus for use that I would provide the gasoline for the trip down to Covington for the game. The cost of gasoline would be a factor for most people and the hope was simply see if we could provide an alternative for some folks. The plan did not come without some glitches though. The 1ST one being that the festivities start around 4:00 PM and the players pre -game meal begins around 3:00. Doing the math, that has us needing to leave Rebel Park by 12:30 PM and not pulling...

A different type of Double Header on tap for Saturday (Day 29)

My wife Linda has collected 10 of the 12 stamps she needs to finish out her Passport and she plans on taking the ATV-60/ Bruce Alger Bus down to the All-Star game in Covington so that leaves her in search of a trip over to Warrenton for a Fauquier Gators game. The twin bill that will take place tomorrow between the Staunton Braves and the Gators will give us the opportunity to sneak across the mountain and still make it back for the 7:30 PM game between Luray and Woodstock. I have to be back and behind the microphone for the Wrangler game by 7:15 PM so the 4:00 PM start for game 1 will be great. We will be getting to take care of a few things at the same time. Linda will be able to collect the 11TH stamp, Rebecca will be able to give Kay and Boyd a disc with some Braves pics on it and I will be able to get a second look at the beautiful field over at Fauquier High School. Don't know if G-S-G Mike will be able to catch the first game of the twin bill on his way from Waynesbo...

The Top 5 Reasons Last Night (Covington) Was Pretty Cool

Wow- that four hours went really quick! We are heading over to the high school for the Luray Bulldogs send off at 1:45 p.m. so I better get right back to it. When I stopped earlier there were still five spots left on the top 10: #5.- Kip Ritenour - (Warren Sentinel) We had spent some time with Kip the night before when we were in Front Royal and we are so so thankful for anyone that takes the time to try and promote the idea of promoting the league. Kip had tried to get back a hold of me about his story this week but I didn't find the e-mail until last night when we pulled into the parking lot In Covington . When we finished delivering all of the papers last night I also found a message on the office phone from Kip. For all of the same reasons that I discussed with the kind people in Covington last night, Kip earned one last at-a-boy award. The league is full of people that go the extra step and that is what I am trying to show people. The owners, host families, ticket takers- ri...

Taking the Bus with dedicated driver Bruce Alger

One of the news stories coming out of New Market at the dinner was that the Rebels had just aquired a team bus for the 2008 season and Bruce and company took it out for a joy ride earlier in the week! There was nothing on the police blotter about the incident so all is well. One of the hot topics heading into the summer is which way the rising gasoline prices will effect Valley attendance. Some of the people in the mix think the glass is half full and others half empty.Yes things will get pricey but some families will look for events closer to home versus traveling out of state for vacations. When the trip to Covington came up and the costs that come with it I made a deal with Bruce. If he would make the bus available and drive it (little hat-optional), I would ride in the front seat and cover the cost of the gas for a trip to the All-Star game. Bruce shook on it so I think we have a deal so the fans that want to load up for the journey to Covington should contact Mr.Alger!
