A Great Nite at the Ballpark!

Last night had a little bit of everything and that always makes it harder to pick out an idea or two and run with it. I will tell you that Harrisonburg made it three straight by defeating New Market 6-5 after waiting out a 54 minute rain/lightning delay. It was great to be back where it all began for me- covering a game while doing the Rebel web cast with old friends Tony Mowat and Dallas Alkire . Charlie Dodge joined in as well when he made his way up to the Crows Nest in the sixth inning. Charlie thought he had brought a lead with him (Rebels took a 4-3 lead) but when we look back he brought a severe weather front with him. I just switched back from reading the story that the 1ST Mr.D (Dustin Dopirak) wrote at http://www.dnronline.com/ . Dustin was there until the end and wasn't afraid to join in with us up in the Nest. The other Double D (TV-3 Damon Dillman ) had no other game to get to so he spent a longer stretch of the game with us. Both of these gentlemen appear to reall...

On a dark and stormy night there was the tale of the three ball games!

Monday, Monday.... Make-up day was here and the schedule had three games on it and the story sorta went like Goldie Locks & The Three Bears... Haymarket @ Woodstock- The call was made before the opening pitch to give way to the weather for a second time on the Senators and River Bandits showdown. I didn't hear exactly when the no play call was made but lets hope it was before Haymarket boarded the bus. Luray @ Waynesboro - Luray waited until 5:30 ish to board the team bus as the weather/storms were dominating the headlines. The Wranglers finally arrived just prior to 7:00 p.m. and the start of the game was moved back with the hopes of sneaking 9 innings into the books. Luray had made the 65 mile trip south the first time this game was on the schedule and wasn't sure about doing it again. The game got started late and Generals Sign Guy Mike was keeping me updated every couple of innings until they pulled the plug around 10:30 p.m. during the bottom of the 7 Th inning....

Mr. Mike Barber of Daily News Record (Harrisonburg)

Things are beginning to pick up steam with Around The Valley in 60 Days and Wednesday April 23rd offered an opportunity to visit with a fountain of baseball knowledge, Mr. Mike Barber. Thanks to some help from Teresa Wease of the home town Harrisonburg Turks, Mike contacted me to ask some back ground questions. On the sports staff of the Daily News Record,Barber has spent a lifetime following the greatest game ever played! We spent a little over 30 minutes talking about a wide range of topics including where the idea of Around The Valley originated.I couldn't of asked someone to be any more pleasant than Mike was during our conversation and I look forward to speaking with him on our trip down to Harrisonburg! Mrs.Wease followed up by posting the article from the April 24th edition of the DNR on her team web site and her efforts to support "our project" have been first rate from the beginning. The baseball trail for Mr.Barber included a stay in the offices of MLB and any...
