News and notes from Haymarket, Virginia

Good Morning, I am going to try and give a quick recap for those who might be joining us for the first time. My family and I are trying to help shine a spotlight on the Valley Baseball League and all of the amazing people that are behind the scenes. Last night we went to Haymarket (stop #9 of 11) and had a great time meeting folks from both visiting Luray and the home standing Haymarket Senators. My youngest daughter, Rebecca , spends the evening taking as many photos as possible and then she comes back and posts them on the site. She finished last night and then I go to work on my end. We try to pick out 10 topics that made the night special for us from both the visitors and the home fans. One other goal we have is to try and take a picture of each one of the volunteers that give up so much of their time to help out the owners. Please make sure you get to look at those (under the listing- Hey, Hey what, Haymarket ). Let's get busy- #10.- Wrangler skipper Mike Bocock ...

Big Night / Lots of posts to create... 5 in All

Monday night proved to be one with story lines at every turn. There will be five posts for the evening and we will get them cranked out in between working the papers. 1. The tour stop took us to Warrenton for a Fauquier Gators home game and were welcomed by a family with an incredible story and I look forward to sharing it with you. 2. Rebecca took a Valley road trip as Luray skipper Mike Bocock was nice enough to allow her to join the Wranglers on the team bus. Luray was the opponent for the Gators and we wanted to try and catch a glimpse of life on the road for a Valley Leaguer . 3. The big night of presenting the finished product of our book- A season of a Lifetime- to the school and the volleyball team at Strasburg High School. 4. Setting the table for all of the Valley high school Elite Eight match-ups that will take place Tuesday night. Some of the big games include Lancaster @ Luray , Strasburg @ Essex as well as Waynesboro @ Abbington . The Bulldog game will start at ...

My Journey with the Luray Wranglers

Image
Hey all! "Ace photographer" Rebecca Carter reporting for duty. Today, I got the privilege (by happy necessity) to ride the Luray Wranglers bus to their 7:30PM game at Fauquier High School versus the Fauquier Gators. What was it like? Well let me show you... 4:25PM . When I arrived at Bulldog Field, the chariot awaited me. The bus (referred to by an anonymous source as "the boss' bus") was incredibly nice and comfortable. 4:30PM . I join the players and coaches on the bus along with Debbie, the amazing bus driver. I had a really good time getting to know her in our pre-trip conversation. I'm really glad I got to meet her! 4:40PM . Head Coach Mike Bocock decides to take a quick nap. He and assistant coach Randy Smith have been pulling double duty lately - they both work as teachers on top of their responsibilities with the Wranglers. After he woke up he told me he had woken up earlier today at 6:00AM ! 4:50PM . All is quiet and calm in the bus. Some players l...

Stu Richardson and the Woodstock River Bandits

Bruce Alger and the New Market Rebels weren't the only Valley League team busy in Shenandoah County this week. Mr. Stu Richardson and his hard working staff took to the links at Shenvalee Resort for their 5th annual River Bandits Tournament. We sponsored a hole at the event and showed up this past Sunday morning to offer support if needed to Stu and company. Stu has been great to work with and has dedicated his front page of the River Bandit Web site to our efforts so anything I can do to help his efforts will get done. My golf clubs never left the trunk as all 60 players took to the course for a day of fun and I was priviliged to meet both Mrs. Richardson and local legend Mr.Jerry Walters! I asked the senior Walters, now your Jeff's Dad right? Stu and Jerry ran the event like they run their organization- first rate! Check out their web site for tourney results. Wrangler skipper Mike Bocock and his son were among the golfers helping pave the way to a successful day for all!...
