A Great Nite at the Ballpark!

Last night had a little bit of everything and that always makes it harder to pick out an idea or two and run with it. I will tell you that Harrisonburg made it three straight by defeating New Market 6-5 after waiting out a 54 minute rain/lightning delay. It was great to be back where it all began for me- covering a game while doing the Rebel web cast with old friends Tony Mowat and Dallas Alkire . Charlie Dodge joined in as well when he made his way up to the Crows Nest in the sixth inning. Charlie thought he had brought a lead with him (Rebels took a 4-3 lead) but when we look back he brought a severe weather front with him. I just switched back from reading the story that the 1ST Mr.D (Dustin Dopirak) wrote at http://www.dnronline.com/ . Dustin was there until the end and wasn't afraid to join in with us up in the Nest. The other Double D (TV-3 Damon Dillman ) had no other game to get to so he spent a longer stretch of the game with us. Both of these gentlemen appear to reall...

Extra Time - Memories of ATV

Image
Rebecca Carter here. I was sitting outside the Sheetz in Mount Jackson, waiting for the papers to arrive after our exciting game at Woodstock and I had some time to think. I took the time to think about the letter that got assigned to each team for the passport and came up with a couple of things for each team... first up, a list of people who really made us feel welcome or that just generally And next, different aspects of each team or of each experience that I remember most. Enjoy!

Another great night at the ball park ! June 12,2008

Plenty of cool things to report in the ATV-60 wrap- up for Thursday June 12,2008. Lets start out by sharing the great news that John Leonard posted earlier on his sight (All Things Valley League) about the feature story from the Daily News Record. Teresa posted it to the Turks home page pretty quick and it is a great read about the hard work our friend does every day for the love of the game! Rebecca and I were down at Bulldog Field for the tilt between Harrisonburg and Luray . Before the game started I was able to help coordinate a five minute celebration of the season just completed by the LHS Bulldogs (26-2). The crowd was great and thanks to some help from both Luray skipper Mike Bocock and majority owner Bill Turner the tribute went off without a hitch. I thanked Bob Wease over the PA for allowing the first pitch to be delayed for five minutes while I introduced the players one by one. By my count we had 19 of the 21 total players/coaches and staff! Rebecca took some pictu...

Chris Graham takes a look at Gas Prices & the VBL

Just made it through another night of keeping the folks in Page County informed with the delivery of their Washington Post and USA Today. I wanted to check a couple of things before departing in search of a nap. I always head over to check and see what John (All Things Valley League) and Chris (Augusta Free Press) have going on before I call it a night/morning. Chris has a piece ( www.augustafreepress.com ) called "Gassed" in which he talks to Dave Biery , Jim Critzer ( Waynesboro ) and Teresa Wease ( H'Burg ) about how the price of gas might effect the league. There is a 50/50 split out there on how many people will stay closer to home vs. taking longer family vacations and as summer begins we will find out. The article is a good read and offers quotes from the above mentioned trio as well as thoughts from Chris himself. The other thing I check is the San Diego box score if the Padres weren't done playing before I headed out. The Friars scored 4 runs to def...

Spending a Saturday Night with a special Lady and the some kind folks!

We tried to match stories and pictures up from the games as they happened and we were running pretty close but with the LHS State Championship Trip last Friday I fell behind. We always made sure that Rebecca posted the pictures as soon as she could and I kept writing away in hopes of keeping up. The Winchester visit started the slow down because of the warmth of the feeling we left the park with (no-not the heat) after hanging out with Brian and company. The next two stops came at places where Mr. (Bruce Alger) and Mrs. (Teresa Wease ) Around The Valley in 60 Days run their ball clubs. I knew going into the promotion that Bruce was special but the efforts from Teresa really have been amazing. Now lets jump forward to it being Sunday night and our trip to Haymarket . I judge myself and our efforts on a pretty tough scale and Haymarket was the one team that I felt I had been a big supporter of but I came up short in my efforts to really be able to make a difference for the team up the...
