Coming Full Circle Written by Melissa Dodge For me, Valley League baseball embodies the purest form of the game. From hungry young men who are dreaming and striving to one day make it to "The Show" to enthusiastic kids scrabbling for foul balls in the parking lot to small town communities coming together to enjoy and revel in a traditional slice of Americana. These are just a few things that make my heart sing and bring me out to the ballpark nearly every night of the Shenandoah Valley summer. These bits and pieces combine with the personal interactions I've come to enjoy with my fellow fans and even perfect strangers in the ballpark grandstands. During Thursday night's game against the Fauquier Gators I had the distinct pleasure of engaging in conversation with an older gentleman and his lovely wife, Cecelia. He mentioned he had met one of the New Market coaches on the golf course that day who encouraged him to come to the ballgame that evening. As it turned out ...

Good Morning- It's 12:32 a.m. Monday and we are running behind!

Today is a big day for us on the newspaper end as we are training a new person for some of the work. I see that Generals Sign Guy Mike has a gamer in the e-mail box for Luray @ Waynesboro - Rebecca will post later this AM. I called the Covington @ New Market game on the web cast so I will have photos and notes on that as well. Rebecca posted the Staunton @ Fauquier photos and I need to label them, Melissa sent some cool stuff for us to add and so did Mr. Boylan from up Boston way. Also pics from Saturday afternoon and Sunday night to work thru. Tonight we will celebrate with the neat ladies down in Waynesboro as they have finished their passports... All of this and then some will come your way soon! Let me at least leave you with the scores from Sunday until I get back- Fauquier Gators 7 Front Royal 5 Staunton Braves 4 Harrisonburg 3 New Market Rebels 5 Covington 3 Waynesboro 4 Luray 1 Winchester.....IDLE Woodstock 6 Haymarket 4 Only 1 or 2 games coming tomorrow- Woodsto...

A Great Nite at the Ballpark!

Last night had a little bit of everything and that always makes it harder to pick out an idea or two and run with it. I will tell you that Harrisonburg made it three straight by defeating New Market 6-5 after waiting out a 54 minute rain/lightning delay. It was great to be back where it all began for me- covering a game while doing the Rebel web cast with old friends Tony Mowat and Dallas Alkire . Charlie Dodge joined in as well when he made his way up to the Crows Nest in the sixth inning. Charlie thought he had brought a lead with him (Rebels took a 4-3 lead) but when we look back he brought a severe weather front with him. I just switched back from reading the story that the 1ST Mr.D (Dustin Dopirak) wrote at http://www.dnronline.com/ . Dustin was there until the end and wasn't afraid to join in with us up in the Nest. The other Double D (TV-3 Damon Dillman ) had no other game to get to so he spent a longer stretch of the game with us. Both of these gentlemen appear to reall...

Luray vs. New Market @ Rebel Park- Just doesn't get any better than this!

Stop #7 on the Around The Valley in 60 Days tour was last Friday night in New Market. I have always said that in my opinion the Wrangler- Rebels contests were my favorite in the league. I really believe that this is a match-up where the rivalry is bigger for the fans of the teams than the players themselves. There are some similarities between New Market baseball and UNC basketball. The Tar Heels have to face a biggest rival more often than all other ACC teams. They are the biggest game of the season for Duke, North Carolina State and Wake Forrest. But it doesn't stop there for the Heels- after Va Tech, the biggest game on the UVA schedule is UNC as is the case for South Carolina (after Clemson). New Market has the natural in county rival (Woodstock), the neighbors from across the mountain ( Luray ), the friends from the south (17 miles to H'Burg ) and I'm not sure that Winchester and the Rebels don't do a bit of sizing each other up. It was the easiest pick...
