For those of you that haven't read about the book before I will touch on the big night in Strasburg , Va. last night. I took the money I was paid by the NVD to cover high school sports for the two years and put it back into two projects. One of course is Around The Valley in 60 Days and the other one was a book that Sabrena and I created for the Strasburg community about their Volleyball program. I had the privilege of covering these young ladies for the past two seasons and spent a great deal of time with Coach Suzanne Mathias and Athletic Director Matt Hiserman . The idea of the book started building steam on Senior Night when I found out more and more info about the 7 seniors on the team. The team went on to Richmond and completed their journey with a 28-0 season and the schools 1st State Championship but as I said during my speech last night, the book was about the close nit team and the community. Monday night proved to be one with story lines at every turn. There will be five posts for the evening and we will get them cranked out in between working the papers. 1. The tour stop took us to Warrenton for a Fauquier Gators home game and were welcomed by a family with an incredible story and I look forward to sharing it with you. 2. Rebecca took a Valley road trip as Luray skipper Mike Bocock was nice enough to allow her to join the Wranglers on the team bus. Luray was the opponent for the Gators and we wanted to try and catch a glimpse of life on the road for a Valley Leaguer . 3. The big night of presenting the finished product of our book- A season of a Lifetime- to the school and the volleyball team at Strasburg High School. 4. Setting the table for all of the Valley high school Elite Eight match-ups that will take place Tuesday night. Another exciting week is in the books and it was quite a week! The sister project to Around The Valley in 60 Days is a book written and designed by my daughter Sabrena, John Galle of the Shenandoah Valley Herald and myself. The book covers the remarkable 28-0 season completed earlier in the school year by the Strasburg Rams volleyball team. The finished product was ready to be passed out to the coaches, players and parents of the school and with the help of Athletic Director Matt Hiserman and former coach as well as proud parent Judith Smoot, that took place this week. Head Coach Suzanne Mathias and company will hopefully have a way to remember their journey for years to come. The book is titled "A Season of a Lifetime" and young Mr.Galle added a great recap of the season as well as providing the picture for the cover of the book. We have all been invited to share in the Strasburg sports banquet on Monday June 2nd and hope to do so before heading off to Warrenton for the Fauq...
