Class A - J.J Kelly advanced to the finals with a victory over Luray and then went on to capture yet another State Title with a 14-9 victory over Essex on Saturday 6/7/08. We still have some fun things left where the Bulldogs are concerned once we have all of the bio info back to us. Class AA- Waynesboro also fell in the semi-final round to the eventual State Champ. The Little Giants were defeated by Powhatan on Friday and then Alleghany ( Covington ) was the opponent in the finals. Alleghany (25-2) dropped a hard fought 7-4 contest on Saturday in the finals. Class AAA- James River went on to capture the AAA crown with a 10-0 victory over Colonial Forge in the finals... Luray , Waynesboro and Alleghany all made it into State play and then moved on to the Final Four! A great spring for the high schools of the Valley

My dad has always poked fun at me for how many items I will add to a plan once I have it in place. He is down in Knoxville,Tn retired and taking care of my Mom these days. This past week he would of been laughing pretty loud (how loud- you might could of heard him up here!) if he had all the happenings in front of him. We run a business that keeps us busy from 11:00 p.m. until around 8:00 a.m. 365 days a year and that in itself makes life interesting . Add in all the leg work to Around The Valley in 60 Days and the office work that goes with the Post job and I started wondering how I would survive 11 trips in 11 days? Greetings- It is 1:24 p.m. on Saturday and everyone is hard at work here at the home office! Linda is trying to prepare the give away items for the trip tonight to Harrisonburg for the Turks game. Rebecca is trying to finish the game night programs for the Front Royal @ Luray contest and I am trying to generate the bills that go out tonight to our Washington Post customers here in Page County. Skipper Jim Critzer and his Waynesboro Little Giants (22-5) defeated Jefferson Forrest Thursday evening by a score of 10-8. The victory moves WHS back into state competition for a second consecutive season. The Little Giants received a first round bye, then rallied late to defeat William Byrd before heading down to Amherst to face the JF Cavilers. The Cavs (18-5) struggled in the field for a second straight game and simply could not overcome 7 errors. The last time I watched Jim Critzer flash that famous ear to ear grin of his before today was moments after Waynesboro defeated Luray in game four of the Finals last season. I had the pleasure of interviewing Critzer while he still had his hands on the trophy but that smile paled in comparison to the one I saw this evening. One of the most fascinating things for me about the owners of the 11 teams in the Valley League is that they all have "real jobs". Critzer works for a living like all of the others but the difference for the Waynesboro owner is he gets to wear cool uniforms to work and I can tag a long with him for a day. Critzer is the head baseball coach for the other tenant at Kate Collins Middle School- his Waynesboro Little Giants. Waynesboro captured the regular season crown in the newly formed Southern Valley District which earned them a first round bye on Monday evening.
