8 Posts in 1 Night! Must be some kinda record- Volleyball, Football and VBL all listed below for your viewing pleasure

I was able to create a number (8) of stories for the kind folks that are still checking in and I still haven't gotten to the actual game notes from the Volleyball match. But it is time to go make sure the folks of Page County receive their Friday edition of the Washington Post. Feel free to leave a note or two if you have something to add...

Inside the VBL : Greg and Cathy Brill (Front Royal)

Image
After watching Cathy's current Wildcats Volleyball squad face off with the Panthers of Rappahannock County Thursday night I went in search of a story. Not your typical gamer but a story about a couple that appears to find ways to be a part of the community up in Front Royal year around. I should mention that Warren County dropped their match 3-0 (25-8, 25-17 & 25-16) to a talented Rapp team but as Paul Harvey says- "The rest of the Story" will be about Greg and Cathy Brill. Cathy Brill moved to our Valley 15 years ago from Texas and she is currently in her ninth season as the Volleyball Coach of the Warren County Wildcats. Her program is still recovering from the recent creation of WCHS's sister school Skyline. The new school opened its doors last year and a number of the programs at both schools are still going thru re-growing pains if you will. Brill has coached a total of 11 players that have gone on to play college volleyball. The high water mark for the

Made the trip over the mountain to the campus of Rappahannock County High School for the Panthers VB match with the Wildcats of Warren County. This opened up a number of story options and a set of game notes. Linda was there with the camera to see if she could capture some pics of the coaches and players from the two schools. Warren County is coached by Mrs. Cathy Brill (9TH season) and you might recognize the name from our VBL stories this past summer. Cathy is married to Greg Brill who has his hands in a number of projects that include helping Donna Settle run the Front Royal Cardinals. Greg also writes for the Winchester Star and that was the case tonight as he was covering the Clarke County VB match. You can check out Greg's gamer later tonight at http://www.winchesterstar.com/ . _______________________ The pictures above are from the web sites of Warren County High School and Lynchburg College. _______________________ I also had the chance to visit with Mr. & Mrs. K

Checking in with Elena Kritter (Rappahannock County/ Lynchburg College)

Image
Spending a few minutes with Mom and Dad Kritter last night allowed me to check with them on how their daughter Elena was adjusting to life in college. Elena led the Panthers Volleyball program the past few seasons that included back to back trips to the Class A State semi-finals. After graduation this past summer she started classes at Lynchburg College and is playing VB for the Hornets in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. Elena is one of a number of area VB players that are now playing at the next level and the former Panther has hit the floor running for 3RD year Coach Beth Ellinger . Lynchburg has already competed in a pair of tournaments with Elena making the first team f All-Tourney down in Greensboro. The Kritter's tell us that Elena is loving playing at the next level and loving her classes. They also mention that the squad is a very young one with no seniors on the team. She describes Coach Ellinger as dynamic as as Mom added "Happ

Friday Night Lights with ESPN-1240 : Take #4 - Harrisonburg @ R.E. Lee

It is that time again! Chip Crabill and I will be heading down to Gypsy Hill Park in downtown Staunton , Virginia for a High School Football Showdown in this weeks edition of the Augusta County High School Game of the Week on ESPN-1240 THE BOSS. The man of the hour this week will be young Dae ' Quan Scott of R. E. Lee High. Scott was a talented junior last season but his stock skyrocketed this summer following a few combines/camps this summer. Scott has already taken the ball to the "house" as the folks like to say, 9 times in his first 3 games. Add in a 2-point conversion and the senior had put 56 points on the score board himself. R.E Lee (3-0) will be hosting a very solid Harrisonburg team that enters the game at 2-1. We will be on the air at 6:30 PM with the tail gate show and kick-off is slated for 7:30 PM. I am looking forward to another huge crowd for the Friday Night contest between the Leeman and the Blue Streaks!

You are invited to a 20TH Anniversary Party at Bill Turner Inc. !

Image
This Saturday from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM there will be quite a party taking place at the main lot of Bill Turner Inc @ 1203 East Main Street. Bill is the man with the plan when it comes to the VBL's Luray Wranglers and this Saturday Bill and Company will be celebrating 20 Years in the Automotive business. Bill & Joni will have free prizes, live music and special guests for the occasion as well as balloons and face painting for the Kids. This is just another example of the folks behind the VBL working for a living and for Bill to have reached 20 years in the same community is truly a sign of his commitment to the Town of Luray . Check out Bill's new website at http://www.billturnercars.com/ and you should stop by on Saturday as join the party!
