An Evening in the Wrangler Bullpen- Luray 7 @ Woodstock 4

One final Happy Fathers Day to all of the Dads out there! My afternoon ball game didn't go as well as I would like as Maddux got three runs of support but left on the short end of a 5-3 deficit that turned into a 7-3 San Diego loss. I can't complain about the verdict as I am sure Greg will tell you tomorrow- he didn't have his best stuff. But he did have some spunk as the Professor went over 100 pitches for only the second time this season. The books will show 6 innings/ 2 earned runs but the 3 UN -earned runs came after only the fourth fielding error Maddux has made in the past three seasons. He hit his first batter in 15 starts and threw his first wild pitch in the same time frame. The game was less fun to watch/listen to because it was Cleveland TV and those guys still wanted to talk about Cleveland keeping Maddux and the Braves from clinching the World Series something like a decade ago. My guy didn't get win #351 but I couldn't think of anything I w...

Our Trip to Front Royal

Image
Again, the story will come later with dad but for now here are (a lot!) of pictures of our adventures at Bing Cosby Stadium in Front Royal, VA. The view from the visitor's section. Dad and Dennis Grundman. Front Royal's greatest fan!

Now you know the rest of the story! Luray wins 12-7

I've always said you can judge the importance of a ball game by the number of media outlets there to cover the action! I had mentioned Craig Juer ( NVD ) and Bill Meade ( PN &C) but that was just the tip of the ice burg . Greg Brill was there to represent the Winchester Star, John Galle covering the Rams for the Shenandoah Valley Herald and Ace camera lady Rebecca Carter was snapping pictures for Around The Valley in 60 Days. I had the best seat in the house for two reasons- (1st) I was sitting next to Mr. Craig Orndorff and he's as good with play-by-play as anyone around. (2nd) The broadcast booth/table is only about 10 feet removed from home plate! The crowd was every bit as big as I had expected. Strasburg AD Matt Hiserman estimated the gathering at 700-750 with a fair amount of Luray maroon mixed in with the home team purple. Luray (25-1) sent Ryan Carroll to the mound which sent me in search of Mr.Carroll to ask him when the last time Ryan pitched. The ...

Luray Bulldogs @ Strasburg Rams - Region B Title Tilt

The first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at what should be a packed house in Strasburg . The championship of Region B baseball as well as the right to stay at home for your next game is on the line tonight! Strasburg (21-2) earned a spot in the championship game after a pair of come from behind wins over Wilson (5-4) and Appomattox (7-4). Both the wins came at home for the defending Class A State Champs. Luray (23-1) arrives in town after a pair of late game victories over George Mason (3-2) and Chatham (7-6). The Bulldog victory over the Cavilers saw LHS rally back from down 6-3 late in the game. The game will see plenty of media coverage from both sides, starting with Craig Juer ( NVD ) and Bill Meade (Page News). You can read Craig on line after 10:00 a.m. tomorrow at www.nvdaily.com . I will have the special treat of providing color along side one of the best play by play man in the region. Craig Orndorff will be calling the game for his network www.valleyspo...

Time to say THANKS for the support !

The list of people who have helped pave the way in getting the idea of Around The Valley in 60 Days is growing so I felt it was time to stop and update the list! My Daughters-Sabrena and Rebecca for their hours of work on the design and lay-out side of things. This is finals time at UVA so Rebecca has taken a break from updating the Web Pages but will be back at it soon! Dan Simpson- Washington Post Circulation Manager- Dan leads the team at the Post that is responsible for the majority of work I do at Crystal Clear Delivery. Mike Petre & Chuck McGill- The two most recent Sports Editors from the Northern Virginia Daily that gave me the opportunity to cover the league the past two seasons. Randy Arrington- Editor of Page News and Courier and responsible for Shenandoah Valley Herald as well. Randy was there from the beginning when the idea was little more than scribbled on a napkin. His Sports editors Bill Meade (Page) and John Galle (Shenandoah) have both been great to work with and...

The Perfect Double Header

Image
This weekend was sort of the kick-off of the promotion and we had the souvenir stand at Rebel Park in New Market at the two double headers covered with free gifts and information about Around the Valley in 60 Days. The whole weekend went as well as we could've hoped and we had a lot of fun with some local as well as Pennsylvanian friends. At the event we were giving away planners with different VBL team's home games in them, many gifts from the USA Today , free Northern Virginia Daily 's on Saturday, free Washington Posts on Sunday, gifts from the Northern Virginia Daily and gifts from the New York Times . Overall, we had a blast and we really appreciated the support of newspapers, local and nation-wide. Rebecca Carter and Sean Cantrell spent the time from 1PM until the end of both double headers handing things out and answering any questions people had. We just wanted to make sure the information was out there for whoever wanted it and to watch some talented kids play bas...
