Chris Graham takes a look at Gas Prices & the VBL
Just made it through another night of keeping the folks in Page County informed with the delivery of their Washington Post and USA Today. I wanted to check a couple of things before departing in search of a nap. I always head over to check and see what John (All Things Valley League) and Chris (Augusta Free Press) have going on before I call it a night/morning.
Chris has a piece (www.augustafreepress.com ) called "Gassed" in which he talks to Dave Biery, Jim Critzer (Waynesboro) and Teresa Wease (H'Burg) about how the price of gas might effect the league. There is a 50/50 split out there on how many people will stay closer to home vs. taking longer family vacations and as summer begins we will find out. The article is a good read and offers quotes from the above mentioned trio as well as thoughts from Chris himself.
The other thing I check is the San Diego box score if the Padres weren't done playing before I headed out. The Friars scored 4 runs to defeat the LA Dodgers 4-1 and yes I will say it- boy I wonder what it would be like for them to give Maddux 4 runs of support! With the win they move to within .5 games of San Fran in 3RD and 3.0 games of LA in 2ND.
John has to be loving the fact that Kevin and company are winning the battle with the gremlins that have been eating at the VBL website. Take a jump over to see the pitcher and the hitter of the day at his site (link to right side of our page).
Another full slate of action set for later tonight and we will try and highlight a couple of match ups later. Have a Great Morning
