A Rebel-Wrangler Classic: Luray 6-5 in 11 innings

What a bad night for hard working Doug down at Future Media to have technical difficulties that prevented any of the 5 VBL games to be broad casted . The gremlins that have been playing havoc with numerous things connected to the VBL were at it again. The problems were not in relationship to Doug or his end but a number of Web Cast listeners were left in the dark. I hope he gets everything worked out by tomorrow night. I can let you know that General Sign Guy Mike reported in @ 10:39 p.m. to let us know that his Waynesboro team defeated Covington 7-3 and we had a report from Winchester that the Royals defeated the Fauquier Gators by a final score of 3-0. Winchester exploded last night in their win over H'Burg and tonight they improved the best record in the league with pitching and stellar defense. In Luray , the Battle for the Mountain lived up to the pre game hype and then some! The boys needed 11 innings to declare a winner and for the second straight time it was Lu...

Random Rain!

There was some serious rain here just a few minutes ago. It has cleared up a good bit since then, though! No worries.

Ten Reasons Why it's Better to be a Wrangler Fan

Image
My dad showed me Tony Mowatt's list of the ten reasons why it's better to be a Rebel fan than a Wrangler fan so I decided that it just wasn't fair that no one on his side had been given a chance for a rebuttal. Here is his list so you can understand my responses: 10) Luray is west of New Market. Everyone around here knows the further east you go, the stranger the people. 9) It takes longer to get from Luray to New Market than it does from New Market to Luray. Think I'm kidding? Time it. 8) The food is better. While Luray certainly has a fine burger. No way, and I mean NO WAY is it better than a Rebel Park fresh fried onions burger. 7) New Market doesn't have a porta-john. Nuff said. 6) Rebel Park, featured in the Washington Post. Wrangler Park, featured in Page News and Courier. Just sayin' 5) The greatly underrated major league catcher, Jerry May played for the Rebel's. 4) The infield dirt in Rebel ...

Update on Volleyball Book: Season of A Lifetime

Image
We wanted to make sure that all of the GIFT copies of our volleyball book had been given out before we made the book available to the teams' Family & Friends. The book follows the road that lead the Strasburg Rams all the way to Richmond where they captured their State Championship. My daughter Sabrena did the layout on the book and it includes stories from team players, coaches, parents and a host of others. The bulk of the writing was done by me but Shenandoah Valley-Herald Sports Editor John Galle added a season wrap at the end of the book. You can take a look at the book or purchase a copy by going to www.lulu.com and using the search box at the top- Punch in Season of A Lifetime (Or you can click on the above picture of the cover of the book and it'll take you directly to the site.) The story is as much about a mother and daughter relationship as it is about the State Title and I feel blessed to have been there to document the tale.

Hey Baseball Fans- Guess What time it is- Tonight is Game 2 of New Market vs. Luray

The park will be a hopping tonight at Bulldog Field in Luray as the New Market Rebels (6-10) travel across New Market Gap to face the Luray Wranglers. I have said from the beginning of my stay in the Valley that this is the Duke- UNC or Alabama-Auburn clash of the VBL . The best game on the slate anytime it gets played and tonight will be no exception. Luray (8-6) edged New Market 4-3 back on June 6TH in Rebel Park on the strength of two home runs from catcher Cory Johnson and the pitching of 3-0 Travis Smink . New Market comes into the game riding a 2 game winning streak after home victories over Covington (16-9) and Front Royal (5-0). The Wranglers will be trying to shake off the effects of back-to-back losses to Waynesboro on Monday and Tuesday before having a day off yesterday. Smink will be back on the mound in search of victory #4 on the young season and he will be facing a Rebel line up that now includes NC State's Nick Stanley. Tony Mowat , my broadcast par...

For Steve Owens and Nick Stanley it was just a game of pitch and catch! Rebels 5 Cardinals 0

What a night up in the Crows Nest over in New Market! The night started out well with a visit from Mr.Tim Tassa from the Northern Virginia Daily. Tim started the game out on the deck with Tony Mowat and me though he was smart enough to move indoors when the rain starting falling harder. Tim is a staff writer for the NVD and the recent grad from WVU always has a pleasant disposition about him when our paths cross. Dallas Alkire took the night off after the offensive explosion the night before against Covington where the Rebels hung a 10 spot in the bottom of the first and held on for a much needed 16-9 victory over the Lumberjacks. Tim took the chair Dallas normally occupies and we enjoyed having him there until the weather broke. After 10:00 a.m. Thursday you can read Tim's gamer at http://www.nvdaily.com/ . I was happy that the last pitch took place at 10:01 PM to give Tim & Sports Editor Chuck McGill ample time to frame the effort. The other bonus treat in the Nest ...

LHS Baseball Cards - Yes or No?

Image
Here is what I had in mind for all the players on the LHS team. I want to get some feedback from the guys to see if it's worth the energy to make some more for each of the players on the team. What do you guys think? Like it? Don't like it? It's supposed to be a baseball card, sort of. Let me know, guys!
