The Week Ahead : October 20TH - October 26TH, 2008
LURAY- There are a number of sporting events taking place Around Our Valley over the next 7 Days and the one taking place down in Blacksburg, Va. this Saturday and Sunday is pretty high on my list.
Kaitlin Smoot will be playing in a Club Tournament hosted by the good folks down @ Virginia Tech all weekend. The site lists 24 teams as of yesterday with both squads from VT in the field. It will be the first chance I have had to watch young Ms. Smoot play since the All-Star game down at Christopher Newport University. I know that Mr. & Mrs. Smoot will be making the trip down I-81 as well so Linda and I will get a chance to visit with them as well.
Friday Night Lights on ESPN-1240 takes us on a road trip (All the games are in normally Augusta County so there are weeks when they all seem like Road Trips to me). But this week we will head down to Lexington, Virginia for the R.E. Lee - Rockbridge County showdown. The game promises to be a shoot out and we will be there from 6:30 P.M until the throw us out of the place at the end of our post game show.
Mr. Jim Sacco (News Virginian) will be making the trip South as well so we will have Jim doing the tail gate show with us, under the U.S Army tent. Jim adds a certain flavor to what Chip and I are doing when it comes to Augusta County High School sports. I know it is fun for me when he is around and I hope it is for the listeners as well.
Tuesday night is a HUGE night for Shenandoah District Volleyball as the two top teams, Luray and Wilson Memorial (both @ 7-1) clash down in Fishersville. A win for the Bulldogs seals the deal as LHS already owns a home court win over the Green Hornets. If the home team wins the match they will need to defeat Stonewall Jackson up in Quicksburg on Thursday to claim the top spot. It will be Senior Night for Wilson and the gym should be a jumpin!
Bridgewater College is home on Wednesday against ODAC foe Guilford and then plays on the road on Friday night down at Christopher Newport University. The Lady Eagles swept both Mary Baldwin and Sweet Briar Saturday in a Tri-Match with some interesting nick names. BC (19-6, 5-4 )defeated both the Squirrels and the Vixens.

Our good friend John Leonard is still hard at work keeping his readers up to date with All Things Valley League (http://allthingsvalleyleague.typepad.com/ ). Forgive John if he is a bit distracted this week as his Phillies are playing in the World Series.
The same goes for another good friend, Chuck McGill at http://www.nvdaily.com/ is a die hard Rays fan so he might need to get some rest after what had to be a tough weekend.
Jim Sacco is a Cubs fans so I know he won't be distracted by the Fall Classic. Check out Jim's blog over at http://mydailyprogress.com/ . Jim is a great read and his work is a touch like mine in that it is mostly local...
Plenty of things to do and places to go this week - so I hope to see you Around Our Valley!
